Wedding Reception Insurance: Coverage, Cost and Same-Day Guide

A wedding reception brings guests together for dinner, toasts, dancing and entertainment at a hall, restaurant, tent or private property. Couples should sort out host liquor liability, what the venue requires on certificates, damage to rented items and whether vendors carry their own coverage.

Which guide answers my question?

Which activities should the application describe?

Insurers price and review wedding reception insurance from the activity plan, not the event name. Describe who is responsible for each of these arrangements:

  • Describe the wedding reception's dining, speeches, entertainment and guest access.
  • Identify the reception host, caterer, venue and other hired businesses.
  • Separate the reception schedule from ceremony or after-party activities not requested.

What kind of claim is this insurance for?

Suppose a grandparent at the buffet is burned when a chafing-dish fuel can tips over beside the serving line and alleges that the wedding couple caused the injury. That is the kind of third-party claim event liability insurance may address, subject to the policy terms. If a rented tent or linens are damaged and the rental company bills the couple, you may need a separate coverage option; ordinary event liability is not automatically the answer.

What should I have ready for a quote?

  • The legal name of the wedding couple who will be the named insured.
  • Event dates, setup and teardown times, the venue address and expected daily attendance.
  • The venue contract or permit, including any certificate and additional insured wording it requires.
  • Whether alcohol is served, sold or brought by guests, and who serves it.
  • Hired vendors, performers and equipment rentals, and any activity beyond the list above.

Request a quote with your event details. Submitting the form does not bind insurance.
