Horseback or UTV Trail Ride Insurance: Coverage, Cost and Same-Day Guide

A trail ride leads groups on horseback, in UTVs or both along private land or public trails, sometimes with a lunch stop or overnight camp. Organizers should sort out animal liability, vehicle coverage for UTVs, participant waivers and injury coverage, and landowner certificate requirements.

Which guide answers my question?

Which activities should the application describe?

Insurers price and review horseback or UTV trail ride insurance from the activity plan, not the event name. Describe who is responsible for each of these arrangements:

  • Identify whether the ride uses horses, UTVs, or both.
  • Map trails and shared crossings.
  • Coordinate guides, owners and riders.

What kind of claim is this insurance for?

Suppose a hiker sharing the trail is knocked down when a spooked horse from the ride bolts off the path and alleges that the trail-ride organizer caused the injury. That is the kind of third-party claim event liability insurance may address, subject to the policy terms. If a rider is thrown or a UTV rolls over, since participant injuries and vehicles are often excluded, you may need a separate coverage option; ordinary event liability is not automatically the answer.

What should I have ready for a quote?

  • The legal name of the trail-ride organizer who will be the named insured.
  • Event dates, setup and teardown times, the venue address and expected daily attendance.
  • The venue contract or permit, including any certificate and additional insured wording it requires.
  • Whether alcohol is served, sold or brought by guests, and who serves it.
  • Hired vendors, performers and equipment rentals, and any activity beyond the list above.

Request a quote with your event details. Submitting the form does not bind insurance.
