Street Closure Event Insurance: Coverage, Cost and Same-Day Guide

A street closure blocks one or more public roads for a parade, block party, market or filming, with barricades, detours and foot traffic in the roadway. Organizers should sort out who places and removes barricades, how vehicles inside the closure are covered, and what the local authority asks to see on certificates.

Which guide answers my question?

Which activities should the application describe?

Insurers price and review street closure event insurance from the activity plan, not the event name. Describe who is responsible for each of these arrangements:

  • Identify the purpose and physical extent of the planned street closure.
  • Describe barriers, access points and which entity controls the closed area.
  • Coordinate activities conducted within the closure separately from traffic-control responsibilities.

What kind of claim is this insurance for?

Suppose a cyclist rides into an unlit sawhorse barricade left at the edge of the closed street after dark and alleges that the street-closure organizer caused the injury. That is the kind of third-party claim event liability insurance may address, subject to the policy terms. If a vendor truck or organizer vehicle moving inside the closed street injures someone, a commercial auto issue, you may need a separate coverage option; ordinary event liability is not automatically the answer.

What should I have ready for a quote?

  • The legal name of the street-closure organizer who will be the named insured.
  • Event dates, setup and teardown times, the venue address and expected daily attendance.
  • The venue contract or permit, including any certificate and additional insured wording it requires.
  • Whether alcohol is served, sold or brought by guests, and who serves it.
  • Hired vendors, performers and equipment rentals, and any activity beyond the list above.

Request a quote with your event details. Submitting the form does not bind insurance.
