Hired Event Speaker Insurance: Coverage, Cost and Same-Day Guide

A hired speaker delivers a keynote, workshop or panel talk at a conference, school or corporate gathering, sometimes with handouts or audience participation. Key questions include whether the venue wants a certificate, whether the talk involves advice that could lead to professional liability claims, and how onstage demonstrations are handled.

Which guide answers my question?

Which activities should the application describe?

Insurers price and review hired event speaker insurance from the activity plan, not the event name. Describe who is responsible for each of these arrangements:

  • Define the speaker's topic, promised materials and delivery format.
  • Describe platform access, microphones and audience questions.
  • Clarify whether professional advice or demonstrations form part of the service.

What kind of claim is this insurance for?

Suppose an audience member invited onstage for the speaker's live demonstration steps backward off the edge of the riser and alleges that the speaker caused the injury. That is the kind of third-party claim event liability insurance may address, subject to the policy terms. If an attendee claims the speaker's advice caused a financial loss, a professional liability issue rather than bodily injury, you may need a separate coverage option; ordinary event liability is not automatically the answer.

What should I have ready for a quote?

  • The legal name of the speaker who will be the named insured.
  • Event dates, setup and teardown times, the venue address and expected daily attendance.
  • The venue contract or permit, including any certificate and additional insured wording it requires.
  • Whether alcohol is served, sold or brought by guests, and who serves it.
  • Hired vendors, performers and equipment rentals, and any activity beyond the list above.

Request a quote with your event details. Submitting the form does not bind insurance.
