Company Retreat Insurance: Coverage, Cost and Same-Day Guide

A corporate retreat takes employees to a resort, lodge or conference center for meetings, team-building activities, meals and evening socials. Companies should confirm who signs the venue and supplier contracts, how employee injuries and travel are handled and whether host liquor coverage applies to evening events.

Which guide answers my question?

Which activities should the application describe?

Insurers price and review company retreat insurance from the activity plan, not the event name. Describe who is responsible for each of these arrangements:

  • Identify which organization books the retreat property and signs supplier contracts.
  • Describe the mix of facilitated sessions, meals and overnight arrangements.
  • Compare the retreat label with company-retreat terminology and the actual itinerary.

What kind of claim is this insurance for?

Suppose a resort guest walking by is struck by an errant ball during the company's lawn team-building games and alleges that the company caused the injury. That is the kind of third-party claim event liability insurance may address, subject to the policy terms. If an employee is hurt during team building, since employee injuries fall under workers' compensation, you may need a separate coverage option; ordinary event liability is not automatically the answer.

What should I have ready for a quote?

  • The legal name of the company who will be the named insured.
  • Event dates, setup and teardown times, the venue address and expected daily attendance.
  • The venue contract or permit, including any certificate and additional insured wording it requires.
  • Whether alcohol is served, sold or brought by guests, and who serves it.
  • Hired vendors, performers and equipment rentals, and any activity beyond the list above.

Request a quote with your event details. Submitting the form does not bind insurance.
