Regatta Insurance: Coverage, Cost and Same-Day Guide

Regattas bring rowing, sailing or paddling races to a lake, river or harbor, with launch areas, officials' boats and spectators along the shore. Organizers should sort out watercraft exclusions, safety boats and weather procedures, and what the marina or waterfront owner requires on certificates.

Which guide answers my question?

Which activities should the application describe?

Insurers price and review regatta insurance from the activity plan, not the event name. Describe who is responsible for each of these arrangements:

  • Identify the types of craft and activities included in the regatta.
  • Describe course boundaries, start areas and shore-side organization.
  • Separate responsibilities of the event organizer, boat owners and other operators.

What kind of claim is this insurance for?

Suppose a spectator on a crowded floating viewing dock is thrown off balance and injured when the dock section lurches and alleges that the regatta organizer caused the injury. That is the kind of third-party claim event liability insurance may address, subject to the policy terms. If a racing shell or sailboat is damaged in a collision, since watercraft are usually excluded, you may need a separate coverage option; ordinary event liability is not automatically the answer.

What should I have ready for a quote?

  • The legal name of the regatta organizer who will be the named insured.
  • Event dates, setup and teardown times, the venue address and expected daily attendance.
  • The venue contract or permit, including any certificate and additional insured wording it requires.
  • Whether alcohol is served, sold or brought by guests, and who serves it.
  • Hired vendors, performers and equipment rentals, and any activity beyond the list above.

Request a quote with your event details. Submitting the form does not bind insurance.
