Poetry Reading Insurance: Coverage, Cost and Same-Day Guide

Poetry readings feature poets or open mic participants reading work at a bookstore, cafe, library or bar, sometimes with music or a book signing. Organizers should confirm venue certificate requests, whether alcohol is served and by whom, and how recordings or published work are handled with readers.

Which guide answers my question?

Which activities should the application describe?

Insurers price and review poetry reading insurance from the activity plan, not the event name. Describe who is responsible for each of these arrangements:

  • Identify readers and the format of the poetry program.
  • Describe open-mic participation and recording if present.
  • Coordinate microphone access and seating.

What kind of claim is this insurance for?

Suppose a guest is burned when a candle on a cafe table is knocked over during the open mic reading and alleges that the reading organizer caused the injury. That is the kind of third-party claim event liability insurance may address, subject to the policy terms. If a reader claims a recording of their poem was shared without permission, a rights issue outside bodily injury, you may need a separate coverage option; ordinary event liability is not automatically the answer.

What should I have ready for a quote?

  • The legal name of the reading organizer who will be the named insured.
  • Event dates, setup and teardown times, the venue address and expected daily attendance.
  • The venue contract or permit, including any certificate and additional insured wording it requires.
  • Whether alcohol is served, sold or brought by guests, and who serves it.
  • Hired vendors, performers and equipment rentals, and any activity beyond the list above.

Request a quote with your event details. Submitting the form does not bind insurance.
