Personal Chef Insurance: Coverage, Cost and Same-Day Guide

Personal chefs plan menus, shop and cook in a client's home or a rented kitchen for dinner parties, meal prep or special occasions. Chefs should sort out food-borne illness and allergy exposure, damage to client property in their care, and whether their own knives, cookware and vehicle use are covered.

Which guide answers my question?

Which activities should the application describe?

Insurers price and review personal chef insurance from the activity plan, not the event name. Describe who is responsible for each of these arrangements:

  • Describe the chef's work in the client's or hired kitchen.
  • Identify kitchen equipment and property used under the contract.
  • Coordinate meal preparation, serving and cleanup responsibilities.

What kind of claim is this insurance for?

Suppose a dinner guest suffers a severe allergic reaction after eating a sauce that contained undisclosed tree nuts and alleges that the personal chef caused the injury. That is the kind of third-party claim event liability insurance may address, subject to the policy terms. If the chef damages a client's high-end range, which may fall under care, custody or control exclusions, you may need a separate coverage option; ordinary event liability is not automatically the answer.

What should I have ready for a quote?

  • The legal name of the personal chef who will be the named insured.
  • Event dates, setup and teardown times, the venue address and expected daily attendance.
  • The venue contract or permit, including any certificate and additional insured wording it requires.
  • Whether alcohol is served, sold or brought by guests, and who serves it.
  • Hired vendors, performers and equipment rentals, and any activity beyond the list above.

Request a quote with your event details. Submitting the form does not bind insurance.
