Parade Participant Insurance: Coverage, Cost and Same-Day Guide

Parade participants enter a float, walking group, vehicle or performing unit in someone else's parade, often because the organizer requires proof of insurance. Participants should confirm what the organizer wants named on the certificate, how the tow vehicle is insured and whether throwing candy or giveaways is allowed.

Which guide answers my question?

Which activities should the application describe?

Insurers price and review parade participant insurance from the activity plan, not the event name. Describe who is responsible for each of these arrangements:

  • Identify the participant's float, walking unit or vehicle within the parade.
  • Describe assembly, entry to the route and responsibilities assigned by the organizer.
  • Separate the participant's activities from the overall parade organizer's duties.

What kind of claim is this insurance for?

Suppose a bystander is struck in the face by a hard candy thrown overhand from the participant's float and alleges that the parade participant caused the injury. That is the kind of third-party claim event liability insurance may address, subject to the policy terms. If the tow vehicle pulling the float is in an accident, which may need auto coverage rather than event liability, you may need a separate coverage option; ordinary event liability is not automatically the answer.

What should I have ready for a quote?

  • The legal name of the parade participant who will be the named insured.
  • Event dates, setup and teardown times, the venue address and expected daily attendance.
  • The venue contract or permit, including any certificate and additional insured wording it requires.
  • Whether alcohol is served, sold or brought by guests, and who serves it.
  • Hired vendors, performers and equipment rentals, and any activity beyond the list above.

Request a quote with your event details. Submitting the form does not bind insurance.
