Parade Insurance: Coverage, Cost and Same-Day Guide

Parades move floats, marching bands, vehicles and walking groups along a closed street route while crowds line the curbs. Organizers should sort out vehicle and driver coverage for each unit, curbside barriers and marshals, what the city requires on certificates and whether participating groups carry their own insurance.

Which guide answers my question?

Which activities should the application describe?

Insurers price and review parade insurance from the activity plan, not the event name. Describe who is responsible for each of these arrangements:

  • Identify whether the applicant organizes the route or joins one unit.
  • Map the route, staging and public access.
  • Describe floats, vehicles, animals and performances.

What kind of claim is this insurance for?

Suppose a child reaching for thrown candy is struck by a slow-moving float at the curb along the parade route and alleges that the parade organizer caused the injury. That is the kind of third-party claim event liability insurance may address, subject to the policy terms. If a float vehicle hits a parked car, since auto liability and vehicles are usually excluded, you may need a separate coverage option; ordinary event liability is not automatically the answer.

What should I have ready for a quote?

  • The legal name of the parade organizer who will be the named insured.
  • Event dates, setup and teardown times, the venue address and expected daily attendance.
  • The venue contract or permit, including any certificate and additional insured wording it requires.
  • Whether alcohol is served, sold or brought by guests, and who serves it.
  • Hired vendors, performers and equipment rentals, and any activity beyond the list above.

Request a quote with your event details. Submitting the form does not bind insurance.
