Orienteering Event Insurance: Coverage, Cost and Same-Day Guide

Orienteering events send participants cross-country with a map and compass to find checkpoints in parks, forests or campuses. Organizers should sort out landowner permission and certificates, participant waivers, search procedures for lost entrants and whether injuries to competitors on rough terrain need accident coverage.

Which guide answers my question?

Which activities should the application describe?

Insurers price and review orienteering event insurance from the activity plan, not the event name. Describe who is responsible for each of these arrangements:

  • Place navigation checkpoints.
  • Register competitors and issue course maps.
  • Track starts, finishes, and missing participants.

What kind of claim is this insurance for?

Suppose a hiker on a shared trail is knocked down by a competitor sprinting off a blind corner toward a checkpoint and alleges that the orienteering organizer caused the injury. That is the kind of third-party claim event liability insurance may address, subject to the policy terms. If a competitor gets lost or twists an ankle off trail, since participant injuries are often excluded, you may need a separate coverage option; ordinary event liability is not automatically the answer.

What should I have ready for a quote?

  • The legal name of the orienteering organizer who will be the named insured.
  • Event dates, setup and teardown times, the venue address and expected daily attendance.
  • The venue contract or permit, including any certificate and additional insured wording it requires.
  • Whether alcohol is served, sold or brought by guests, and who serves it.
  • Hired vendors, performers and equipment rentals, and any activity beyond the list above.

Request a quote with your event details. Submitting the form does not bind insurance.
