Livestock Show Insurance: Coverage, Cost and Same-Day Guide

A livestock show brings exhibitors and their cattle, hogs, sheep, goats or poultry to a fairground or barn for judging and sometimes an auction. Organizers should sort out exhibitor responsibilities, pen and handling arrangements, public path separation and whether animal mortality or care of others' animals needs separate coverage.

Which guide answers my question?

Which activities should the application describe?

Insurers price and review livestock show insurance from the activity plan, not the event name. Describe who is responsible for each of these arrangements:

  • Identify livestock species and exhibitor responsibilities.
  • Describe pens, handling and any sale or auction activity.
  • Coordinate loading, animal holding and public paths.

What kind of claim is this insurance for?

Suppose a visitor walking through the barn aisle is knocked down and stepped on by a steer that breaks from its handler and alleges that the livestock show organizer caused the injury. That is the kind of third-party claim event liability insurance may address, subject to the policy terms. If a show animal is injured or dies in the pens, a loss of animal value outside event liability, you may need a separate coverage option; ordinary event liability is not automatically the answer.

What should I have ready for a quote?

  • The legal name of the livestock show organizer who will be the named insured.
  • Event dates, setup and teardown times, the venue address and expected daily attendance.
  • The venue contract or permit, including any certificate and additional insured wording it requires.
  • Whether alcohol is served, sold or brought by guests, and who serves it.
  • Hired vendors, performers and equipment rentals, and any activity beyond the list above.

Request a quote with your event details. Submitting the form does not bind insurance.
