Event Lighting Technician Insurance: Coverage, Cost and Same-Day Guide

An event lighting technician installs and runs fixtures, trusses, dimmers and control consoles for concerts, weddings and corporate events. Vendors should sort out rigging responsibility with the venue, protection for their own equipment and the certificate and contract terms clients often require.

Which guide answers my question?

Which activities should the application describe?

Insurers price and review event lighting technician insurance from the activity plan, not the event name. Describe who is responsible for each of these arrangements:

  • Identify lighting fixtures, mounting and operating duties.
  • Describe work heights, power and control equipment.
  • Coordinate installation with venue electrical and rigging responsibilities.

What kind of claim is this insurance for?

Suppose a guest is struck by a stage light that drops from an overhead truss during the reception and alleges that the lighting vendor caused the injury. That is the kind of third-party claim event liability insurance may address, subject to the policy terms. If the vendor's fixtures, dimmers or consoles are damaged in transit or by a power surge, you may need a separate coverage option; ordinary event liability is not automatically the answer.

What should I have ready for a quote?

  • The legal name of the lighting vendor who will be the named insured.
  • Event dates, setup and teardown times, the venue address and expected daily attendance.
  • The venue contract or permit, including any certificate and additional insured wording it requires.
  • Whether alcohol is served, sold or brought by guests, and who serves it.
  • Hired vendors, performers and equipment rentals, and any activity beyond the list above.

Request a quote with your event details. Submitting the form does not bind insurance.
