Food Truck Insurance: Coverage, Cost and Same-Day Guide

A food truck serves hot food from a vehicle at festivals, markets, private parties and street locations. Owners should confirm how customer injuries and foodborne illness may be handled, keep commercial auto separate from event liability, and check what the event host requires.

Which guide answers my question?

Which activities should the application describe?

Insurers price and review food truck insurance from the activity plan, not the event name. Describe who is responsible for each of these arrangements:

  • Identify the truck, kitchen equipment and parking arrangement.
  • Describe fuel, power and customers queuing beside the vehicle.
  • Coordinate commercial auto and food-service responsibilities separately.

What kind of claim is this insurance for?

Suppose a customer waiting in line is burned when hot oil splashes from the fryer through the truck's service window and alleges that the food truck owner caused the injury. That is the kind of third-party claim event liability insurance may address, subject to the policy terms. If the truck is hit while driving to the event, which is a commercial auto matter, you may need a separate coverage option; ordinary event liability is not automatically the answer.

What should I have ready for a quote?

  • The legal name of the food truck owner who will be the named insured.
  • Event dates, setup and teardown times, the venue address and expected daily attendance.
  • The venue contract or permit, including any certificate and additional insured wording it requires.
  • Whether alcohol is served, sold or brought by guests, and who serves it.
  • Hired vendors, performers and equipment rentals, and any activity beyond the list above.

Request a quote with your event details. Submitting the form does not bind insurance.
