Film Festival Insurance: Coverage, Cost and Same-Day Guide

A film festival presents screenings across one or more venues, often with filmmaker Q&As, panels, receptions and an awards night. Organizers should sort out how audience injuries in theaters are handled, whether screening rights disputes need media coverage, and how alcohol at receptions may be addressed.

Which guide answers my question?

Which activities should the application describe?

Insurers price and review film festival insurance from the activity plan, not the event name. Describe who is responsible for each of these arrangements:

  • Describe the film festival's screenings, venues and accompanying activities.
  • Identify filmmakers, speakers and responsibility for separate festival sessions.
  • Coordinate audience movement and any panels, receptions or awards.

What kind of claim is this insurance for?

Suppose a patron falls on the sloped aisle of a darkened theater while finding a seat after the screening starts and alleges that the festival organizer caused the injury. That is the kind of third-party claim event liability insurance may address, subject to the policy terms. If a filmmaker claims the festival screened their film without proper rights, you may need a separate coverage option; ordinary event liability is not automatically the answer.

What should I have ready for a quote?

  • The legal name of the festival organizer who will be the named insured.
  • Event dates, setup and teardown times, the venue address and expected daily attendance.
  • The venue contract or permit, including any certificate and additional insured wording it requires.
  • Whether alcohol is served, sold or brought by guests, and who serves it.
  • Hired vendors, performers and equipment rentals, and any activity beyond the list above.

Request a quote with your event details. Submitting the form does not bind insurance.
