Fraternity Event Insurance: Coverage, Cost and Same-Day Guide

A fraternity event can be anything from a chapter cookout to a service day or alumni gathering, held at the house, on campus or at a rented venue. Chapters should describe the exact activity, clarify who controls the property, and check how alcohol and hazing exclusions may apply.

Which guide answers my question?

Which activities should the application describe?

Insurers price and review fraternity event insurance from the activity plan, not the event name. Describe who is responsible for each of these arrangements:

  • Identify the fraternity chapter, alumni body and property owner involved.
  • Describe the exact event rather than relying on the chapter label.
  • Separate chapter-controlled activities from outside suppliers.

What kind of claim is this insurance for?

Suppose a visiting student is hurt when an overloaded porch railing gives way during a chapter cookout and alleges that the fraternity chapter caused the injury. That is the kind of third-party claim event liability insurance may address, subject to the policy terms. If members supply alcohol and a guest is injured after drinking, you may need a separate coverage option; ordinary event liability is not automatically the answer.

What should I have ready for a quote?

  • The legal name of the fraternity chapter who will be the named insured.
  • Event dates, setup and teardown times, the venue address and expected daily attendance.
  • The venue contract or permit, including any certificate and additional insured wording it requires.
  • Whether alcohol is served, sold or brought by guests, and who serves it.
  • Hired vendors, performers and equipment rentals, and any activity beyond the list above.

Request a quote with your event details. Submitting the form does not bind insurance.
