Costume Contest Insurance: Coverage, Cost and Same-Day Guide

A costume contest has contestants parade in costume for judges, often at Halloween parties, conventions or festivals. Organizers should plan for limited visibility, bulky props and crowded waiting areas, and clarify how injuries to contestants are handled.

Which guide answers my question?

Which activities should the application describe?

Insurers price and review costume contest insurance from the activity plan, not the event name. Describe who is responsible for each of these arrangements:

  • Describe the costume judging format and contestant route.
  • Identify large props, masks and visibility limits.
  • Coordinate dressing, waiting and presentation areas.

What kind of claim is this insurance for?

Suppose an onlooker is hit by a contestant's oversized foam wing as they turn at the end of the judging runway and alleges that the costume contest organizer caused the injury. That is the kind of third-party claim event liability insurance may address, subject to the policy terms. If a masked contestant falls on the runway steps, since contestant injuries may be excluded, you may need a separate coverage option; ordinary event liability is not automatically the answer.

What should I have ready for a quote?

  • The legal name of the costume contest organizer who will be the named insured.
  • Event dates, setup and teardown times, the venue address and expected daily attendance.
  • The venue contract or permit, including any certificate and additional insured wording it requires.
  • Whether alcohol is served, sold or brought by guests, and who serves it.
  • Hired vendors, performers and equipment rentals, and any activity beyond the list above.

Request a quote with your event details. Submitting the form does not bind insurance.
