Corporate Retreat Insurance: Coverage, Cost and Same-Day Guide

A corporate retreat takes employees offsite for meetings, workshops and team-building activities, often with lodging, meals and recreation. The employer should separate employee injuries (usually a workers' compensation question) from guest and venue liability, and consider transportation and hired activity providers.

Which guide answers my question?

Which activities should the application describe?

Insurers price and review corporate retreat insurance from the activity plan, not the event name. Describe who is responsible for each of these arrangements:

  • Identify the employer sponsoring the retreat and the employees attending.
  • Separate business sessions from recreational and team-building activities.
  • Describe offsite travel, lodging and the employer's contracted responsibilities.

What kind of claim is this insurance for?

Suppose a lodge guest on the dock is hit by a stray paddle during a team-building canoe race and alleges that the retreat organizer caused the injury. That is the kind of third-party claim event liability insurance may address, subject to the policy terms. If an employee is injured during a team-building activity, which is typically a workers' compensation question, you may need a separate coverage option; ordinary event liability is not automatically the answer.

What should I have ready for a quote?

  • The legal name of the retreat organizer who will be the named insured.
  • Event dates, setup and teardown times, the venue address and expected daily attendance.
  • The venue contract or permit, including any certificate and additional insured wording it requires.
  • Whether alcohol is served, sold or brought by guests, and who serves it.
  • Hired vendors, performers and equipment rentals, and any activity beyond the list above.

Request a quote with your event details. Submitting the form does not bind insurance.
