Charity Sale Insurance: Coverage, Cost and Same-Day Guide

A charity sale collects donated clothing, housewares and furniture and sells them to the public to raise money for a cause. Organizers should consider coverage for donated goods in storage, injuries from heavy or unstable items and who is responsible for hauling away what does not sell.

Which guide answers my question?

Which activities should the application describe?

Insurers price and review charity sale insurance from the activity plan, not the event name. Describe who is responsible for each of these arrangements:

  • Identify donated goods and the organization responsible for sales.
  • Describe collection, sorting and public handling of items.
  • Coordinate stalls, payment and unsold-property removal.

What kind of claim is this insurance for?

Suppose a shopper is hurt when a donated bookcase tips over while being pulled from a stack of furniture and alleges that the sale organizer caused the injury. That is the kind of third-party claim event liability insurance may address, subject to the policy terms. If donated goods are stolen from storage before the sale or a volunteer strains their back hauling furniture, you may need a separate coverage option; ordinary event liability is not automatically the answer.

What should I have ready for a quote?

  • The legal name of the sale organizer who will be the named insured.
  • Event dates, setup and teardown times, the venue address and expected daily attendance.
  • The venue contract or permit, including any certificate and additional insured wording it requires.
  • Whether alcohol is served, sold or brought by guests, and who serves it.
  • Hired vendors, performers and equipment rentals, and any activity beyond the list above.

Request a quote with your event details. Submitting the form does not bind insurance.
