Charity Auction Insurance: Coverage, Cost and Same-Day Guide

A charity auction raises money through silent or live bidding on donated items, often paired with a dinner and a professional auctioneer. Organizers should sort out who has custody of donated items, how valuable pieces are protected before pickup and what liability proof the venue expects.

Which guide answers my question?

Which activities should the application describe?

Insurers price and review charity auction insurance from the activity plan, not the event name. Describe who is responsible for each of these arrangements:

  • Identify ownership and custody of donated auction items.
  • Describe bidding, payment and collection arrangements.
  • Coordinate auctioneer services and the guest viewing area.

What kind of claim is this insurance for?

Suppose a bidder is struck by a framed painting that slides off an easel in the silent-auction viewing area and alleges that the auction organizer caused the injury. That is the kind of third-party claim event liability insurance may address, subject to the policy terms. If a donated item such as jewelry or artwork is stolen or damaged before the winning bidder collects it, you may need a separate coverage option; ordinary event liability is not automatically the answer.

What should I have ready for a quote?

  • The legal name of the auction organizer who will be the named insured.
  • Event dates, setup and teardown times, the venue address and expected daily attendance.
  • The venue contract or permit, including any certificate and additional insured wording it requires.
  • Whether alcohol is served, sold or brought by guests, and who serves it.
  • Hired vendors, performers and equipment rentals, and any activity beyond the list above.

Request a quote with your event details. Submitting the form does not bind insurance.
