Book Signing Insurance: Coverage, Cost and Same-Day Guide

A book signing brings an author to a bookstore, library or event space to meet readers and sign purchased books. Organizers should clarify who runs the event and who sells the books, liability for guests in the line, and what the venue requires on a certificate.

Which guide answers my question?

Which activities should the application describe?

Insurers price and review book signing insurance from the activity plan, not the event name. Describe who is responsible for each of these arrangements:

  • Identify the author, seller and party organizing the signing.
  • Describe queues, purchased books and autograph handling.
  • Coordinate the author's services with venue access.

What kind of claim is this insurance for?

Suppose a fan waiting in a long line is injured when a tall stack of books slides off the signing table and alleges that the signing organizer caused the injury. That is the kind of third-party claim event liability insurance may address, subject to the policy terms. If the author cancels and the organizer is left with refund demands and unsold stock, you may need a separate coverage option; ordinary event liability is not automatically the answer.

What should I have ready for a quote?

  • The legal name of the signing organizer who will be the named insured.
  • Event dates, setup and teardown times, the venue address and expected daily attendance.
  • The venue contract or permit, including any certificate and additional insured wording it requires.
  • Whether alcohol is served, sold or brought by guests, and who serves it.
  • Hired vendors, performers and equipment rentals, and any activity beyond the list above.

Request a quote with your event details. Submitting the form does not bind insurance.
