Bake Sale Insurance: Coverage, Cost and Same-Day Guide

A bake sale sells homemade or donated baked goods from tables at schools, churches or community spaces, usually staffed by volunteers. Organizers should think about food-related illness and allergy claims, what the host site requires, and how volunteer injuries may be handled.

Which guide answers my question?

Which activities should the application describe?

Insurers price and review bake sale insurance from the activity plan, not the event name. Describe who is responsible for each of these arrangements:

  • Identify who prepares the baked goods and where.
  • Describe ingredient information, serving and storage.
  • Coordinate volunteer sellers and food display tables.

What kind of claim is this insurance for?

Suppose a customer has a serious allergic reaction to an unlabeled cookie that contains nuts and alleges that the bake sale organizer caused the injury. That is the kind of third-party claim event liability insurance may address, subject to the policy terms. If a volunteer seller burns a hand at a warming station and expects the organizer to pay, you may need a separate coverage option; ordinary event liability is not automatically the answer.

What should I have ready for a quote?

  • The legal name of the bake sale organizer who will be the named insured.
  • Event dates, setup and teardown times, the venue address and expected daily attendance.
  • The venue contract or permit, including any certificate and additional insured wording it requires.
  • Whether alcohol is served, sold or brought by guests, and who serves it.
  • Hired vendors, performers and equipment rentals, and any activity beyond the list above.

Request a quote with your event details. Submitting the form does not bind insurance.
